Unai Emery signals to Arsenal hierarchy importance of retaining £50m-rated star

Unai Emery has been addressing the press today ahead of Arsenal’s first pre-season game against Boreham Wood and has underlined the importance of keeping Aaron Ramsey at the club, according to the official website.

Ramsey is rated at £50million according to football.london but has yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal with his contract expiring next summer despite The Telegraph reporting last month that the club were close to agreeing a new deal for Aaron Ramsey.

The midfielder enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Gunners last season and was named the fans’ player of the year too.

Ramsey enjoyed his most influential campaign for the Gunners this season and ended the season in double figures for goals and assists, scoring 11 and laying on a further 12 in 32 appearances.

And new head coach Emery has been impressed with Ramsey in training and made his feelings known to the club’s hierarchy of his desire to hold on to the Wales international.

“I’m very happy with him,” said Emery, as per the club’s website.

“For me, every day, every training session, he has the ambition I want. He’s working with a quality, the type of ability that I want. I want to work with him.

“[His new contract] is a question for the player and for the club. In my opinion, I’ve said to Ivan, Raul and Sven that I think he’s an important player for me.”

Ramsey is a dying breed of genuine goalscoring midfielders; and for Arsenal, it is vital they reward him with a contract on par with Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, otherwise they could risk losing him to Europe’s best clubs.
