‘Done deal’ – Liverpool complete €75million Alisson transfer and set medical date, says Italian journo

Some breaking news from Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano is that Liverpool’s transfer swoop for Roma goalkeeper Alisson is a done deal.

There is yet to be any official confirmation from either club, but one imagines things are not far away from being done now as Romano says a medical for the Brazil international is likely to take place this Saturday.

Romano has tweeted that everything has been agreed in full, with Liverpool set to pay Roma €75million for Alisson, and that the 25-year-old has agreed personal terms on the move to Anfield.

Having established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in the world at the Stadio Olimpico, the arrival of Alisson at Liverpool is a major statement by the Merseyside giants as they look to address the flaws of last season.

For all their quality going forward, Jurgen Klopp’s side were weak in defence with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius obviously not good enough to take the number one position.

Klopp managed to sign Virgil van Dijk in January in another big-money move that helped the club’s cause a great deal, but the goalkeeper issue remained a real problem as Karius made two shocking errors as the side lost the Champions League final 3-1 to Real Madrid.

Alisson should be a superb signing for Liverpool in a problem position

With Van Dijk and Alisson in at Anfield in 2018/19, one imagines this Liverpool team could be serious contenders in the Premier League and Champions League as they put together arguably their strongest squad in a long, long time.

As noted by Romano, Alisson’s transfer fee also makes him the most expensive goalkeeper signing in history, showing just how serious LFC were about fixing this problem position.
