Manchester United and Chelsea have both been in contact with Bayern Munich over the potential transfer of midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

According to ESPN, clubs from the Premier League are showing the strongest interest for the Spain international this summer despite previous links with Barcelona.

ESPN also cite reports from German source Sport Bild that Alcantara would command a fee of around €70million, with Bayern seemingly prepared to offload one or two midfielders this summer due to having so many options in that position.

This looks promising for United and Chelsea, who could both do with strengthening in that department for different reasons.

For the Red Devils, Paul Pogba has not quite looked himself during his time at Old Trafford and Alcantara could perhaps be seen as an upgrade.

For the Blues, the 27-year-old could also be an important addition after a flurry of poor midfield signings in recent times, with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley all flopping since joining last season.

Alcantara could be a bargain at that reported €70m fee, and United and Chelsea will hope some progress can be made on their initial approach to enquire about him, as reported by ESPN.
