Man Utd welcomed one of their summer signings to pre-season training on Friday, and Fred revealed he’s “very happy” to link up with his new teammates.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 25-year-old is said to have joined the Red Devils from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth around £52m, and so expectations will be high over his ability to make a positive impact in the United midfield.

The Brazilian international was afforded additional time off after his World Cup commitments earlier this summer, but as seen in his Twitter post below, he was “very happy” to report for club duty with Jose Mourinho and the rest of the squad.

Further, as per Man Utd’s own tweet below, they have confirmed that Fred will wear the No.17 shirt as of next season, which was vacated following the sale of Daley Blind to Ajax.

Alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, Fred will undoubtedly have a key role to play for the Premier League giants next season, as Mourinho looks to inspire his side to compete on multiple fronts having come up empty-handed last season.

Having finished 19 points adrift of champions Man City and suffered defeat in the FA Cup final to Chelsea, it was a disappointing campaign overall for Man Utd.

In turn, with the additions of Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant this summer with two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the United faithful will be desperately hoping that they’ve strengthened enough to make improvements.

Nevertheless, in what will be his first year in English football, time will tell as to how well Fred acclimatises and adjusts his game to suit the style and tempo of the Premier League.
