Real Madrid not eyeing €110m double swoop, focused on €35m primary target

Reports earlier this week claimed Real Madrid had set their sights on Chelsea pair Willian and Thibaut Courtois, but it’s reported it’s only the latter who is on their transfer radar.

Los Blancos will soon begin an important season as after losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and seeing Zinedine Zidane replaced by Julen Lopetegui, they’ve overseen a lot of change this summer.

Whether or not it disrupts their successful run in recent years remains to be seen, but ultimately with the likes of Gareth Bale, Isco, Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez still at his disposal, it’s questionable as to whether Lopetegui needs additional firepower or if he should look to get the most out of his current options.

According to Marca, he might opt to go with the latter as it’s claimed that speculation of a €110m double bid to prise both Courtois and Willian away from Chelsea isn’t accurate, as only €35m Courtois is a genuine target for the reigning European champions this summer.

That in itself is a questionable priority given Lopetegui has Keylor Navas at the Bernabeu, with the Costa Rican international proving to be a key figure in their recent success.

Nevertheless, Courtois continues to be linked with a move to join Real Madrid and so it remains to be seen if a deal can be done this summer to take the Belgian international back to the Spanish capital after his previous loan spell with rivals Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea will likely be desperate to keep the Belgian shot-stopper at Stamford Bridge given his importance to the side, with Maurizio Sarri undoubtedly preferring to avoid losing key individuals in his first year in charge.

However, with Madrid still eager, as per the report, time will tell if Chelsea can successfully fend off the Euro giants this summer with Courtois set to become a free agent next year when his current contract expires.
