Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on his injury and fitness concerns ahead of their Premier League opener against West Ham United on Sunday.

The Reds will be looking to make a positive start to the new campaign as expectations are high this year given their impressive work in the transfer market.

Having signed Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, the Merseyside giants appear to have strengthened well to give themselves a real chance of competing for major honours this season, to build on their run last year in Europe and another top-four finish in the Premier League.

However, they could be without some key individuals for their season opener this weekend, as Klopp has run through some of the fitness concerns he has with some players of course returning later than planned due to their World Cup commitments.

As noted by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds boss told the media that both Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan are both expected to be ruled out of action, while doubts remain over Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and other England internationals.

In turn, it remains to be seen just how strong a line-up Liverpool are able to put out, as given West Ham’s recruitment drive this summer which has seen them sign the likes of Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and others, they will be looking to spring a surprise at Anfield.
