Klopp will have some tinkering to do with the Reds as they prepare to take on Jose Mourinho's Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The Reds are facing a injury crisis in defence at the worst time of year. The hectic Christmas schedule could force Klopp into playing an inexperienced academy prospect in the coming weeks.

Napoli have reportedly set their sights on Simon Mignolet and Michel Vorm, with the Liverpool and Tottenham aces possible solutions to their goalkeeping problem.

Carlo Ancelotti suffered a setback in pre-season as summer signing and long-term goalkeeping fixture Alex Meret suffered a serious injury.

In turn, a temporary fix is seemingly needed at the San Paolo, and Corriere dello Sport claim that Mignolet and Vorm have been identified as a solution to the issue.

With neither set for regular playing time at Liverpool or Tottenham respectively given the presence of Alisson and Hugo Lloris, an exit arguably makes sense for either as they’ll of course aim to keep Meret out of the side on his return and remain a fundamental piece for Napoli this year.

Guillermo Ochoa is said to be the favourite to fill the void in Naples as per Corriere, but should a deal for the Mexican international fail to materialise, it’s suggested that Mignolet or Vorm may become a more realistic target.

Particularly in the case of the Belgian shot-stopper, who has seen Alisson jump ahead of him in the pecking order having been relegated to the bench by Loris Karius last season, his opportunities at Anfield look slim and so if he does wish to prioritise regular playing time, a move elsewhere must surely be on his mind.

With the transfer window in Italy open until August 17, a day before the new Serie A season gets underway, Napoli still have time to conclude a deal. However, it remains to be seen who will be the new arrival to ease the pressure on Meret and allow him to make a full and swift recovery.

Should a move fail, Orestis Karnezis and Nikita Contini will be vying for a starting spot in Ancelotti’s side.
