AS Roma still trying to provoke Barcelona following their capture of Nzonzi

AS Roma’s official Twitter account continues to be a source of amusement for football fans this summer, after its latest post following Nzonzi’s arrival.

Nzonzi has just completed the biggest summer of his career after joining Italian giants AS Roma from Sevilla for £27.3m on a four-year contract, as per BBC Sport. The 29-year-old midfielder was part of the French squad which won the World Cup in Russia and his performances at both international level and at club level in Spain over the last couple of the years have earned him a move to Serie A.

Nzonzi’s arrival at the Stadio Olimpico makes him their 9th signing of the transfer window so far, but it appears the club is still bitter about one target that got away. Brazilian midfielder Malcolm looked set to join the club earlier this summer from Bordeaux in France, However, the 21-year-old star opted to join Barcelona at the last minute despite having already agreed terms with the Italian outfit.

Roma’s official Twitter page can often be seen engaging in friendly banter with other clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona in recent weeks. In the clubs latest social media post, they have pounced on the opportunity to aim another thinly veiled dig at the Spanish Champions referencing that failed Malcolm deal, with a tongue in cheek video which implied no one was going to stand in the way of their latest transfer.

Nzonzi will likely make his competitive debut for his new club on August 19, when Roma take on Torino in their opening game of the Serie A 2018-19 season away at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
