A day after Gerard Pique publicly conceded that he would like to see Paul Pogba at Barcelona, reports claim that Lionel Messi echoes his thoughts.
The French international has established himself as a key figure at Old Trafford, but as per The Guardian, he raised question marks over his happiness in Manchester earlier this month which in turn sparked speculation over his future.
As Man Utd continue to struggle to meet expectations after back-to-back Premier League losses which has piled the pressure on Jose Mourinho and his players, the Portuguese tactician and club hierarchy would perhaps not have appreciated Pique’s public comments on Monday.
“We would be happy to have him here,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Pogba is a very good player, but a Manchester United player right now and we’ll see if something happens in the future.”
According to Don Balon, Messi also wants Pogba at the Nou Camp in the future, as he believes that the World Cup winner could be a crucial piece to add to the puzzle in order to help them win another Champions League.
It’s suggested that a move from Barcelona could be forthcoming as soon as January, but whether or not Man Utd would be willing to listen to offers in the middle of the season is arguably unlikely.
Nevertheless, time will tell if Pogba seeks an exit next year, and it seems that Pique and Messi are both convinced that he would be an excellent addition for the Catalan giants.
Ernesto Valverde was busy addressing his midfield this past summer though, with Arthur and Arturo Vidal arriving to fill the voids left behind by Andres Iniesta and Paulinho.
In turn, perhaps another question to be asked is where would Pogba fit in, given stalwarts Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic are also regulars in the starting line-up.
Given the quality the 25-year-old possesses though, it’s difficult not to see Barcelona make a move if an exit from United is a genuine possibility.
