Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to securing a deal to sign midfielder Denis Suarez from Barcelona with Unai Emery knowing him well from their previous spell working together.
The 24-year-old has continued to struggle to establish himself for the Catalan giants, making just six appearances in all competitions so far this season.
With Arthur and Arturo Vidal arriving last summer, coupled with the ongoing presence of club stalwarts such as Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic, it doesn’t appear as though his situation will change any time soon and so an exit seems to be the most sensible solution.
According to Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are on the verge of tying up a deal to take him to the Emirates, with Emery knowing Suarez well having worked with him while in charge at Sevilla.
It’s added in the report that both AC Milan and Roma were also interested in the Barcelona ace, but ultimately it looks as though Arsenal are leading the race and have been tipped to wrap up a deal soon.
With Aaron Ramsey set to join Juventus as he prepares for his contract to expire at the end of the season, as noted by Sky Sports, the Gunners need to find a replacement to offer some creativity and a goal threat from midfield.
Emery has a number of options in that department, but with the likes of Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Mohamed Elneny, he appears to have too many defensive midfield options and not enough going forward.
With that in mind, Suarez should address that issue if he does complete a move to the Emirates, with the report above suggesting that it seems likely at this stage in a switch that arguably makes sense for all concerned.
Sport have previously suggested that it could cost in excess of €10m to sign the Spaniard, but it remains to be seen what agreement is reached.
