An entire XI of Man Utd targets, with Sancho and Koulibaly joined by €80m forward and potential world record transfer

The way things are going for Manchester United at the moment, we imagine most fans would be reasonably happy with this squad to be replaced by an entirely new XI for next season.

A growing number might even want the manager included in that, but given that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was only given the job on a permanent basis just over a month ago, we imagine he’ll probably be sticking around.

And if various reports are to be believed, the Norwegian tactician could oversee a huge overhaul at Old Trafford, with this squad clearly in need of major surgery in so many areas.

In fact, given the huge levels of transfer gossip involving Man Utd, we’ve managed to put together an entire XI of the club’s rumoured transfer targets.

We’re not suggesting this is at all realistic, but here’s a look at how United could in theory line up next season if they did indeed sign one new player for each position…

GK: Jan Oblak

Jab Oblak is a transfer target for Manchester United to replace David de Gea

With David de Gea in such poor form and being linked with Paris Saint-Germain by the Daily Star, it could be that we see a new goalkeeper head to United this summer.

ESPN claim the club are already considering a big bid for Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak, with an offer to trigger his release clause and make him the most expensive GK of all time.

CB: Toby Alderweireld

Linked strongly with United last summer, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld has had another fine season and supposedly remains firmly on the Red Devils’ radar.

The Sun claim the Belgium international, who can leave for just £25million this summer, remains among Solskjaer’s top targets, which makes sense given the desperate need to replace flops like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

CB: Kalidou Koulibaly

A name we keep seeing linked with MUFC, Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the best centre-backs in the world right now and seems just the type of Virgil van Dijk-esque signing needed at Old Trafford.

The Mirror have once again linked the Senegal international with United, in what could be another expensive move for the club this summer.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka

A new right-back also seems to be on Man Utd’s agenda for the summer, with a number of names linked, but with exciting Crystal Palace youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka perhaps the outstanding candidate.

The Independent claim the 21-year-old is Solskjaer’s preferred target for that position, though Ed Woodward prefers Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier. Either way, this could be one of the more realistic deals done by the club this summer as veteran defender Antonio Valencia nears the end of his contract.

LB: Alejandro Grimaldo

This perhaps seems one of the less likely moves given the fine form of Luke Shaw this season, but Alejandro Grimaldo has had a fine season for Benfica and is unsurprisingly attracting suitors.

Calciomercato have mentioned United as being one of the teams looking at him, along with Juventus, while Sport link him with Arsenal and Manchester City.

Declan Rice would make a fine signing for Manchester United

CM: Declan Rice

One of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe at the moment, Declan Rice has had an eye-catching season for West Ham and surely won’t be there for much longer.

With Ander Herrera nearing the end of his contract and the likes of Nemanja Matic and Fred struggling, it’s little surprise to see the Irish Independent linking Rice with United, where he could undoubtedly fill a key role already.

CM: Thomas Partey

After some impressive performances for Atletico Madrid, Thomas Partey is another exciting potential addition in midfield for United this summer.

Ghana Web have linked the 25-year-old as MUFC’s top priority target for that position, and it’s easy to see how he could be an upgrade on most of the current crop in that position.

AM: Jadon Sancho

Another name almost constantly linked with the Red Devils at the moment, Jadon Sancho has had a breathtaking campaign for Borussia Dortmund and is surely ready for a step up.

The Independent are among the sources to link him with United for around £100m, and that looks money worth spending on replacing flops like Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.

AM: Joao Felix

Another hugely exciting wonderkid taking Europe by storm is Benfica attacker Joao Felix, who seems another talent capable of instantly becoming first choice at Old Trafford.

The Mail claim United have been scouting the Portuguese teenager, while Don Balon report they could even break their transfer record by meeting his release clause of roughly £104m.

Joao Felix is another wonderkid being linked with Manchester United

AM: Nicolas Pepe

What an attacking line up this would be, with Nicolas Pepe another big-name target in this area of the pitch for United, according to the Express.

While United would do well to get just one or two of these names, Pepe perhaps seems like one of the more realistically affordable ones, and he’d be no less exciting than Sancho or Felix after an outstanding season with Lille.

CF: Luka Jovic

Linked with a whole host of clubs after emerging as another of Europe’s most exciting young players this season, Don Balon have listed Man Utd as among the clubs ready to pay around €80m for Luka Jovic this summer.

With Romelu Lukaku failing to rule out an exit this summer (as quoted by the Guardian) and generally not performing at his best anyway, this Serbian starlet seems an ideal upgrade up front after hitting 25 goals in all competitions to help Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League semi-finals.
