New Chelsea signing snubbed from Champions League squad by Graham Potter

New Chelsea signing Benoit Badiashile was snubbed from their Champions League squad this week by Graham Potter.

It’s no secret that Chelsea have splashed the cash so far under the Todd Boehly regime. Trying to stay within Financial Fair Play regulations is a difficult task and there’s no doubt Chelsea will be treading a fine line.

Another difficult issue is fitting all these players into the squad registration systems – not only in the Premier League but in the Champions League too.

According to The Mirror, the difficult Champions League squad registration rules has meant Potter has been forced to make some difficult decisions. New signing Badiashile has not made the squad for the remainder of the season.

Certain rules allow young players not to be named in the squad but still be eligible to play, but you must have played at the club for two years.

This allows homegrown players the chance to play in Europe without being registered, but it won’t allow a young talent signed from a new club to do the same.
