Liverpool are said to be close to appointing Jorg Schmadtke as their new Sporting Director.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that an “agreement is imminent” earlier this morning. The German has previous behind-the-scenes experience with the likes of VfL Wolfsburg, 1.FC Koln and Hannover 96.

Schmadtke will work alongside manager Jurgen Klopp on new signings and play a significant role in the Reds’ transfer strategy.

A recent report from The Express claims that Liverpool will look to sign players from the Premier League. It also says the club will look to bring in three new midfielders.

With a number of changes potentially happening at Anfield, they’ll want to make sure they get it completely right.

Schmadtke has found success bringing a number of players to the German clubs he’s worked for previously, so he certainly has an eye for talent.

Having said that, a role at a club as big as Liverpool will certainly be a big test. They’ll be looking to rectify their underwhelming 2022/23 campaign and bring in new recruits who can help them become title challengers next season.
