Newcastle United are contemplating the technical director of a Premier League rival as a potential alternative if Dan Ashworth does finalise his move to Manchester United, amid ongoing speculation.

It seems increasingly probable that Dan Ashworth will indeed join Manchester United, as reported by the Daily Mail, with an agreement expected to be reached with the Magpies next week.

Reportedly, Ashworth is eager to transition to Old Trafford. He shares a friendship with Sir Dave Brailsford. Additionally, according to the Daily Mail, his role at St James’ Park has been less expansive than he initially anticipated.

It would undoubtedly be a significant setback for Newcastle if Ashworth were to depart the club. The Magpies seemed to possess immense potential under the new ownership. Eddie Howe guided his team into the Champions League for this season, showcasing their upward trajectory. Ashworth has a track record of remarkable accomplishments throughout his career, further emphasising his value to the club.

According to The Daily Mail, Michael Edwards might emerge as a potential target should Ashworth depart. Additionally, Richard Hughes from Bournemouth could also be under consideration by Newcastle.

Interestingly, Hughes served under Eddie Howe during the latter part of his playing career and transitioned into a backroom role while Howe was still at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth has showcased significant improvement throughout this season. Initially, their decision to replace Gary O’Neil with Andoni Iraola seemed risky and potentially problematic.
