Bayern Munich hand Thomas Tuchel three-game lifeline amid sack claims

Thomas Tuchel is on thin ice at Bayern Munich.

The former Chelsea boss, who replaced Julian Nagelsmann 12 months ago, has endured a tough first year in Germany.

Despite averaging just over two points per game, Tuchel, 50, has fallen at almost every major hurdle.

Losing 3-0 to table-toppers Bayer Leverkusen last weekend and following it up with a disappointing 1-0 Champions League Round of Last 16 defeat against Lazio on Wednesday, the 50-year-old is dangerously close to being relieved of his duties.

However, despite his precarious position in the Allianz Arena’s dugout, Tuchel, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, has an important run of games left to save his job.

“The next three games against Bochum, Leipzig and Freiburg are crucial for the internal evaluation,” he said. “Following that is the return leg against Lazio.”

Failure to take maximum points from the next three games will heap insurmountable pressure on Tuchel as former manager Hansi Flick waits in the wings for an opportunity to return to his old stomping ground.
