Chelsea beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 in their last Premier League match thanks to Cole Palmer’s stunning display.
The Blues have started the season in fine form, climbing up the Premier League table and making their place in the top four.
Enzo Maresca has inspired the Premier League giants this season after their failure of a season under Mauricio Pochettino in 2023-24.
They finished sixth in the league but now they are looking to perform better than that and qualify for the Champions League.
Against Brighton, the Blues were near perfect while attacking but defensively, two mistakes from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez proved to be detrimental for the team.
Maresca has claimed that the fans should expect more mistakes from his players as they are trying to play from the back which is never an easy thing do to in modern football with the opposition players pressing high.
He said, as reported by GOAL:
“I said to Robert and the players, ‘From now on, we are going to concede 10 more goals like the way we conceded the second goal. It’s the way we want to play.”
ESPN pundit Steve Nicol did not like Maresca supporting Sanchez after the mistakes and then telling the supporters that they should expect more of it.
He said on ESPN:
“I’ll tell you what, that’s garbage. Seriously? I’ve never seen this [Maresca’s post-Brighton comments]. This is the first time I’ve seen it. That’s nonsense, that is absolutely nonsense.
“You know what’s happening? It’s one thing every now and again [for] somebody to make an error when you try to play the ball out and it’s actually on to play it out but they make a mess of it, that’s one thing. But to turn around and just say ‘I don’t care; this is what we do’ is nonsense.”
Maresca might not be too harsh this time since his team scored four goals and won the match but in a match when his team fails to score, these mistakes will not be easily treated by the manager.
His attitude might not be the same after a defeat as compared to how it is after a win.
Enzo Maresca has shown he can take Chelsea to the next level
The positive thing about Chelsea is that the new manager has a set philosophy and willing to work hard towards achieving perfection in that.
He has the same playing style as Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, arguably two of the best football teams in the league.
Compared to last season, the Blues have shown they have turned around their poor form and lack of identity and become a team that can hurt any team in the league with their attacking talent and depth.
