Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a move for Mexican wonderkid Gilberto Mora.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are prepared to spend up to £40 million to sign the 17-year-old attacking midfielder from Tijuana.

Gilberto Mora attracts Liverpool interest

The youngster has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in world football, and it is no surprise that several major European clubs are keeping tabs on his development.

Tijuana are understood to want at least £30m before considering a sale, while the overall package could eventually reach £40m depending on the deal structure. The Mexican club are also expected to push for additional clauses that would allow them to benefit financially from Mora’s future development.

Liverpool are not alone in the race, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the highly-rated teenager. That level of competition could make negotiations particularly difficult for the Premier League club.

Mora has already made history at the international level, becoming the youngest player to score for Mexico’s senior team. He found the net in the recent 1-1 draw against Colombia, further highlighting his rapid rise.

Mora on Liverpool radar for a while

Liverpool have followed Mora for some time and have been waiting for the right opportunity to make their interest concrete.

The teenager’s age has been an important factor, with European clubs unable to sign him before his 18th birthday on October 14. A January move therefore appears complicated, particularly given the financial demands and competition for his signature.

Tijuana are reportedly planning to sell next summer, when they believe Mora’s value could be at its highest. Liverpool are firmly in the race, but they will have to move decisively if they want to secure one of the market’s most highly rated young players.

The Reds could see Mora as a long-term investment, but the growing interest from Europe’s biggest clubs means there is unlikely to be an easy path to completing the deal.
