Spurs within touching distance of £12m superstar signing: What a buy!
by Mr Comfort on June 2nd, 2008The signing of Luka Modric showed just how Juande Ramos’ stewardship of Spurs had helped the club to beat all and sundry to top quality players! Now it appears that another big name is very close indeed to securing a move to White Hart Lane.
Spurs do appear to be closing in on the signing of Barcelona’s Mexican midfielder Giovani dos Santos for an initial £6m. (The Times)
19-year-old Giovani closed the season with a fantastic hat-trick as if to display his wares to the world prior to a potential move, and it seems odds-on that he will leave the Nou Camp. The diminutive attacker, available for a total fee of around £12m, appears to have the footballing world at his feet, so it’s understandable that Spurs fans are overjoyed that he may well be about to join Ramos’ revolution!

Can’t wait for this 1 to happen (if it does)……Been looking at some footage of the guy and he looks top class.
Changing the subject, if I may, with so many apparent targets this summer, I would just like to say that I am not overly fussed about losing out on Dunne, we need someone with a bit of pace at the back, Woody will be the brains and when King is not playing we need a speedy guy there with him…
Now on to the goalkeeping situation….. This is a difficult 1, Robbo loves the club and in the most part, we love him, but this is now a big business and we can’t afford to be sentimental about this…….
I keep hearing that we have a deal already in place for Joe Hart….Think I’d prefer Johnathon or Jennifer Hart, because, last night in the England goal, he was MOIDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

Giovanni!! Giovanni!..The name has a nice “footballing god” kind of ring to it..aint it??..
Reminds me of the clubs love affair with the one they called “Ginola”..and a few seasons berore that..”Gascoigne”…add it up..with “Glen” (Hoddle) and “Gary” (Lineker)..
It seems it is well timed for noter “G” to come and lite up WHL!! again..

I remeber seeing this guy about six months ago and I said jokingly at the time, I would love to see him at Spurs!!! I think brining in bentley and capel with another central defender would see a great side together. I think we should keep the faith with a few players, I wont mention them, but after one season, give the guys a break.
HODWAD - June 2nd, 2008 at 11:07 pm
not forgetting ‘Gary’ Docherty.
mikey - June 2nd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Spursdude, with all due respect I too loved Robbo but I think he took his position for granted, as soon as he lost his place he was talking publicly about moving on. He cost us a lot of points last season which also cost him his place in the national team. Cerny was more commited to us than Robbo.
Spursdude - June 2nd, 2008 at 11:34 pm
MIKEY….. Totally agree mate, that’s what I was saying, being a business, we can’t afford sentiment…. My main point was my major worry is over Joe Hart, if indeed there is any truth to it. For England last night, he was awful, nerves maybe, but he didn’t instill any confidence at all…..

Not forgetting Gary Mabbutt

The Shah, you are showing your age ;0) The greatest “G” men of all were Greaves and Gilzean. But hope we can add Giovanni, I agree he has class, could become a Spurs legend,. I suspect he will be kicked around but if he can rise above it…come on Ramos, keep this up, we WANT THE PREMIERSHIP - F*** 4th spot!
Kosher Nostra - June 3rd, 2008 at 3:14 am
How do we Spurs intend to pay for these superstars.
I know its over 4 years but signing Modric, Gio and Capel will mean £15mill out of our transfer budget every year for the next 4 years. On 3 pretty unproven players.
And a new stadium??
Got the smell of Leeds about it!
Worried.
Flipper - June 3rd, 2008 at 5:57 am
Kosher Nostra…I totally stand to be corrected on this one as I’m not even going to pretend to be some kinda legal genius. But if we’re owned by ENIC, an investment company with fingers in a lot of pies, wouldn’t a Leeds style collapse of epic proportions (administration etc) have consequences for all their EU based investments? If that is the case I’m more than certain they wouldn’t take any massive risks with their outlay.
As for Gio Dos Santos…great potential, but we can have all the potential in the world and it isn’t going to help us if we don’t have any experienced winners for them to learn from on the pitch. On a positive note though, if we get Dos Santos and with Modric aswell, we’re going to have some versatilty in the side for once!
Jason - June 3rd, 2008 at 8:35 am
I love my Spurs BUT is anybody else fed up with all the “POTENTIAL” we sign? I stand to be corrected but Taraabt, Prince-Boateng, Kaboul……… the list goes on and on and the conversations keep starting “In the next 3 years we could…..” What would be wrong with spending top dollar on an established international name going for a J Cole or Frank Ribery?
Bairdy - June 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 am
talking of Gs the best we can get is Gomes from PSV and keep Robbo as NO.2 if he’ll stay.
Gary Owen - June 3rd, 2008 at 9:49 am
freakin yids can buy who they want but keep your greasy mits of Richard Dunne, he’s way to much of a legend to go play for that load of ponces!
southern spur - June 3rd, 2008 at 9:50 am
jason - i think we all agree with you mate we need players that will improve the team right now and not in 5 years time. I do feel however that dos santos is a different case, the guy would no doubt be a first team player and would improve our midfield ten fold if he shows the same standard that he has been playing at barca.
Max - June 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 am
What about Greavseyyy the greates striker of all time?
Dennis Bergkamps codpiece - June 3rd, 2008 at 11:48 am
its not the leeds syndrome cos spurs havnt played in the CL league for eons…….. however yes, you are goona go down if ya keep spending more than you can afford on a gamble that it will help you win, perhaps look at getting these players on loan????
southern spur - June 3rd, 2008 at 12:33 pm
who says we dont have the money? daniel levy isnt a stupid guy, there is no chance in hell he would put himself at risk by taking such a huge gamble if he didnt have the money. he is a shrewd business man who has earnt what he’s got because he is money smart. i for one am not worrying about how we are affording these transfers.
YID-I-OH - June 3rd, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Gal Gal Super Gal, Gal Gal Super Gal, Gal Gal Super Gal, Super Gary Mabbutt!
FabregasISGod - June 3rd, 2008 at 1:01 pm
well i for one am not a big spurs fan (being a gooner) but it WOULD be a shame if more top clubs went bust because of things like this……..
PepeGooner - June 3rd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
I think ramos will be making a big mistake…..dos santos isnt that great at all….hes selfish and his decision making is shittttt…..that being said….he does have alot of talent….but it will take him 3 to 4 years to be world class(if it happens)…and then barca will try to buy him back….as they do with most of their rejects
YiddoSteve - June 3rd, 2008 at 2:37 pm
His names Gio, He is a Yiddo
RAYS - June 3rd, 2008 at 3:46 pm
TO PEPEGOONER YOU ARE TALKING FROM YOUR ARSE. DOS SANTOS IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED PLAYERS IN SPAIN AND HE IS STIL; YOUNG, IN A COUPLE OF YEARS TIME HE CAN BE THE NEXT RONALDINHO
another fa - June 3rd, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Yes Dos Santos has the potential to become the next Ronaldhino, but when that happens, we loose him to another club…………as always!!!
Dreadi - June 3rd, 2008 at 5:17 pm
if he does sign im gonna be over da moon did u lot see his hatrick on da last day of da season
Bill Payne - June 3rd, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Kosher, you dont need to worry about Money we are a rich club with a good stadium on top of that if Berba goes we could get a cool 30 mill for him plus enic are not the only ones on the board so i cant see us being another leeds. COYS
YTID - June 4th, 2008 at 7:42 am
This is to RAYS…im a spurs supporter and what pepeGooner just said to you is exactly what you said back you muppet, he said in 3-4 years he could be world class….then you come on with your shit attitude and say “HE IS STIL; YOUNG, IN A COUPLE OF YEARS TIME HE CAN BE THE NEXT RONALDINHO” lol….ITS THE SAME THING NUMPTY!!!!
theres a couple of constructive comments on here from a couple of gooners and personally they come across as decent minded people, no need to start a flame war when they are saying something quite true, iv seen the videos of dos santos too, and he DOES come across greedy…but having said that, its something maybe spurs needs, someone with drive and bid hairy balls to take on defences
COYS!!!
PepeGooner - June 4th, 2008 at 8:21 am
hes been inconsistent all season….his passing range is very limited and he doesnt have the necessary set of tricks to be touted as the next ronaldinho….go and watch him ply first and then criticize me for my comments…..YOUTUBE can make anybody look like FOOTBALLING GOD…..and yes…aaron lennon is even better than him!!!!!!!
PepeGooner - June 4th, 2008 at 8:24 am
and yes as i said…..with the right guidance….he can be world class…its such a shame that barca cant seem to get the best out of their youngsters…they’ve got so much quality
neil - June 5th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
whys everyone saying were gonna go bust because of this
he only costs about 6 million
bob in L.A. - June 6th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Jason hit it on the head. There are so many areas of the team that need fixing desperatley that this signing now dosen’t make that much sense.IAN IAn IAn MOORES IAN MOORES IAN MOORES
