Newcastle look to offload defender in exchange for a striker - a wise move?
by Dexter on June 5th, 2008He’s half an inch taller than lankmeister Peter Crouch, and he’s a striker - Kevin Keegan’s favourite position - and he could be Keegan’s first major signing of the summer. It also gives KK the hilarious option of playing the comedy double act of pint-sized Michael Owen, and skyscraper Nikola Zigic…
NEWCASTLE have been offered the Serbian Peter Crouch in exchange for defender Jose Enrique.
Valencia want to take highly-rated full-back Enrique back to Spain and are using giant striker Nikola Zigic as bait. (Daily Star)
Zigic may well be a good player, but is this an advisable move? Newcastle don’t have the most robust defence to say the least, so to offload a defender in exchange for a striker (and King Kev has plenty of them) seems a little bizarre…

Actually, we could have problems in the striker department at the beginning of the season. Our only fit first team striker is Michael Owen. Oba has an ankle injury and Viduka has gone back to his reserved seat in the sick bay. I don’t know if anybody noticed, but while Alan Smith is a striker, and works very hard for the team, he seems to have forgotten how to score goals.
Andy Carroll may well be getting a good bite of the apple at the start of the season, but he hasn’t made a big impact on the first team yet, not that he’s hjad much of a chance. He’s been blinding in the reserves mind.
I’d really like to see Zigic come to St James’ Park. He’s very tall and can play in the sort of way that Viduka does, however, I really like Jose Enrique and I think he’ll be one of the best left backs in the premier league in a couple of years. Perhaps we could just buy Zigic…

Alan Smith never knew how to score goals - that guy has been the white elephant of the footballing world since he left Leeds
is hard to believe he is a professional footballer let alone been in the premiership for longer than I can remember.
