Joelinton hands Newcastle a huge boost by agreeing new four year contract

Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton is close to agreeing a new contract with the club to extend his stay at St James’ Park.

Joelinton has just 15 months remaining on his current deal, and the Magpies were prepared to listen to offers for the midfielder this summer if a new deal couldn’t be agreed.

The Brazilian joined the club from German side Hoffenheim for £40m in 2019, and initially struggled to make an impact as a centre forward, but since being converted to a midfielder he has really started to shine.

The news of an extension will be a huge boost for Eddie Howe in what has been a difficult season both on and off the pitch.

The Magpies have held a succession of positive meetings with the Brazil international and his representatives, and are confident of tying up a new four-year deal, according to talkSPORT.

Joelinton has agreed a new contract with Newcastle.

The 27-year-old is reportedly going to be become one of Newcastle’s highest earners alongside Bruno Guimaraes.

Negotiations over a new contract have been complicated but it appears a breakthrough has finally been made.

The Brazilian has emerged as a key player under Howe, but his persistent injury problems have left Newcastle with a huge hole in their midfield this season.

Joelinton is currently sidelined with a groin injury but is reportedly making good progress in his recovery and could make a return to action next month.

He has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

Despite an up and down season Howe’s men are still in the running for European qualification and sit eighth in the table just two points behind Manchester United in sixth.

The return of Joelinton and a favourable run of fixtures could see Newcastle embark on a European campaign for the second consecutive season.
