Arsenal to bid for £15m United star: Wenger will not pay more than £11m

With Adebayor on the verge of an Emirates exit, Arsenal are apparently already planning a raid on Newcastle United for a replacement.
Arsenal are set to make a surprise move for Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins as a replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor if he is sold - but will not pay the club’s £15million valuation.
Manager Arsene Wenger is understood to be a big fan of Martins and is keen to bring the 23-year-old to the Emirates, reports The Sun.
But even if Adebayor is sold to AC Milan or Barcelona for £32million, Wenger will not pay Newcastle anymore than £11m for the striker.
The Nigerian is thought to have a £13m release clause in his contract and and that can be triggered if he asks for a transfer.
Martins had agreed a new £80,000-a-week contract on Tyneside but the club did not complete the paperwork and the offer has been withdrawn.
A Martins source told The Sun: “It is a shock Newcastle cannot find the money any more for his new deal but he is a player a lot of clubs want.”
Adebayor’s future is still in doubt. He said he was staying at Arsenal then insisted the club should accept a good offer for him. (Daily Mail)
Will Arsenal pay Martins the £80k he is seeking? Yes they pay William Gallas a similar amount, but that was down in no small part to the fact he came as part of a swap deal and therefore didn’t cost anything to sign in the first place. I really don’t see Obafemi as a potential Gunners star and, if Wenger does get as much as 32m for Emmanuel, then he will surely look abroad for a replacement of a better standard.
What do Arsenal fans think, is Martins good enough for the club?

Gallas is not on £80,000 a week, it’s more 60,000, get your facts right, and Martins has already proved he’s a greedy fucker by demanding 80,000 a week, he is simply not worth it.
The transfer market is getting stupid too much player power and we can thank the Chavs and the Mancs for starting the ball rolling, clubs need to get back to basics and stop pampering players, look at Ronaldo, if it’s true and Adebayor,if it’s true, it’s fucking obscene what is happening, it’s becoming a new modern day Rome.

These Martins stories are just wishful thinking on the part of Newcastle. No way would Arsene the Great buy another freeloader and over rated African. If AW buys anyne it will be either someone nobody has every heard of or Santa Cruze. Note…noone get £80 K a week at ARSENAL.

If Arsenal could afford to pay 80k a week wouldn’t they do it for Adebayor (who is earning 25k a week) and keep him over a 35 year old Martins who is pretending to be mid-20s? Arsene could have bought him from Inter. He doesn’t rate him. Martins is as old as Kanu.

it’s obvious that u lot are unrealistic,what else would martins do to prove his worth at this level?put adebayor in an average team,then u know how useless he is.Its better you stop criticising foreign players and thier age,they bring in quality to this league just as okocha and zola did.
AW should go for martins as he’s a proven goal poacher……..

martins hasnt got the tecnical ability. but thats what we need. like ade, defenders dont no what he will do he is unpredictable. people will say ade was and is bad but if he goes and we get villa for example, hel get goals but wel be bullied by cbs like vidic. eventually cbs will predict his moves and he’l score less. this wil hapen to torres next year. i would prefer a drogba tho, an unpredictable physical player like ade and martins but who can finish too.problem is, there is no one like signable atm
