Once again, Arsenal have found themselves linked with another very talented youngster and this one is apparently very much on offer, as his Dutch employers seek to solve their financial crisis!
Feyenoord are in need of balancing their books before next Tuesdays transfer deadline, and they have let it be known that they are willing to sell their promising young Dutch 21 international Daniel De Guzman.
Sportsweek in Holland says that Everton have made a good offer and that Arsenal may also be keen to take him off Feyenoord’s hands, after missing out on Gokhan Inler.
The 20 year-old has already played around 80 games for the Feyenoord first team, and has just come back from the Olympics with the Holland national team.
He was born in Canada and brought up in Totonto of Dutch parentage, so his English is impeccable and would have no trouble settling in England.
He said recently: “I am certainly open to possible interest from that corner [England] and from what I have heard lately, Feyenoord are happy to hear from them as well,”
He is a perfect target for Arsenal because he is young yet experienced, and best of all, he is available for around £8million! (footylatest.com)
Not sure if being the ‘new Hargreaves’ carries much weight at present, but nonetheless the comparison has been made time and time again. Not just for his Canadian background but also for this style of midfield play. Once again, Everton are also linked to an upcoming prospect but, given their luck in the transfer market this summer, I wouldn’t have thought Toffees fans are holding their breath.
Whilst Wenger could do with another midfielder in the pack, it seems unlikely he would opt for Guzman, although he does have a great deal of experience for a player of his tender years. However, I still expect that this deal will be less likely than some of the others linked with a move to the Emirates. Who do Gunners fans think should play the central midfield role alongside Cesc Fabregas? Someone who is already at the club? Or somebody the club should sign and if so, who?
