It’s official. Liverpool and Arsenal target will be staying at Aston Villa: The saga has finally ended!
by stresster on August 27th, 2008Hip hip…hooray! We might not have had much sun this summer, but we’ve had a veritable plethora of speculation surrounding the future of a certain Aston Villa midfielder. To be fair, it’s not as though the fourth estate have been inventing stories (with the exception of one or two who write lies to sell newspapers), the simple truth was that Gareth Barry handed in a transfer request and expected to be joining Liverpool in weeks, if not days.
However, like a fairytale gone wrong, the England international has seen his current club and his supposed future club fail to agree terms over his sale, with the Midlands club demanding a hefty ransom and Liverpool seemingly failing to stump up the readies to land one of their transfer targets. Now both the Reds and Arsenal (the dark horses in this saga) have seemingly admitted defeat, with The Guardian reporting that Gazza Bazza is going to be a Villan for another season.
“After much speculation I can confirm that Gareth Barry will not leave Aston Villa before the transfer window closes,” said a statement released by Alex Black, who represents Barry. “Gareth made the decision to stay two weeks ago and informed Aston Villa of his intentions.”
Goodness me, much ado about nothing or what! You wouldn’t be surprised if, off the back of this announcement, Liverpool storm in with a late bid and Barry is on his way. Nevertheless, Villa fans will be happy he’s sticking around (providing his attitude is right) and Pool fans won’t be that bothered as it means Xabi Alonso is staying at Anfield. Good news all round (unless you’re Gareth Barry!)?

He didn’t but you know that Liverpool are the supreme football club. If you don’t I am officially telling you know Any One Mouse!
Why would anyone not want to come to a place where………….
Whoops …. …
I wonder why anybody would want to come to Liverpool now myself come to think of it. I live in Cheshire near to all the Man U and Liverpool superstar players. It’s much nicer there.
I only come to the city in an armoured car or by helicopter.
It is not a nice place at all. Birmingham is much better and cleaner.
You stay there Gareth. It is a much safer place for your kids. And….
When they grow up, they will be able to speak properly as well

There was never a transfer request, but to submit one would cost Barry a £3.5 million pound loyalty bonus. So there will never be a transfer request. I admire MON on how he’s handled this. However, quite clearly Barry wants to go. It will all blow up in January again. Just sell him.

MON has handled this with no class whatsoever, lying about his involvement in it, saying Rafael Benitez had been tapping up Barry without his knowledge when the only person RB spoke to about the deal was MON and this was only one conversation…
And now Gerrard is injured and needs an operation, is the saga REALLY over?

I just glad that it is over. Now all can look forward to a very interesting match at Villa Park this Sunday. Which I am sure that we are going to win. YNWA
