Real Madrid midfielder could be set for a move to Manchester United according to The Daily Mail.

The Croatian player recently scored for Madrid against United during their Champions League tie, which eventually saw Madrid go through after winger Nani was controversially sent off.

But Modric has suffered a tumultuous time at the Bernabeu since joining the club from Tottenham last summer.

The player has struggled to establish himself in the starting eleven and finds himself behind the likes of Pepe, Xabi Alonso and Mezut Ozil in the Real pecking order.

Modric also suffered the humiliation of being named the worst signing of the season by readers of Spanish newspaper, Marca.

That could pave the way for Modric to arrive at Old Trafford, with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson a known admirer of the player having tried to compete for the player’s signature before he left for the Spanish giants.

United are in need of midfield reinforcements with veteran midfielders Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs entering the twilight of their careers.

The player is still highly rated in the Premier League and could be available for a fraction of the £33 million Real Madrid paid to Spurs for the player’s services.
