TalkSport has it that the Magpies will go up against Norwich to try and tempt the Dutch international to the Premier League.

Manager Alan Pardew has been acutely aware that his side has struggled for goals since Demba Ba departed for Chelsea in January and he has made a proven goalscorer his prime target over the summer.

However, Dynamo Kiev are also keen on the 24-year-old and they may have the advantage as they will be able to offer European football next season, something that Newcastle, Norwich, or Sporting will be able to offer.

Sporting are in the midst of a disappointing season that currently has them in 10th place in the Portuguese league. The English sides aren’t faring much better, but they will both be hoping that he will want to test himself in the Premier League whilst he’s still in his prime.

The Portuguese giants are also suffering from financial problems off the field and may look to offload Van Wolfswinkel for around £10 million, which is double what they paid Dutch club Utrecht for his services in 2011.

So far this season he has bagged 12 goals in 27 appearances.
