Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks over a move to sign Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic the first Gunners signing of what may well prove to be a very busy summer for the North London side.

Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has apparently resigned himself to losing the Montenegro international and prepared his Serie A side for the departure of the in-form striker by purchasing Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi in January despite the Italian striker still being sidelined with a lengthy knee ligament injury.

Though the La Viola attacker is said to have a host of prospective suitors Arsenal are said to be the favourites to sign Jovetic, with Arsene Wenger looking to bring in the forward to help beef up his strike-force.

Jovetic netted 14 goals in 27 top tier starts last term and has continued to impress this season, with his 12 goals propelling the Stadio Artemi Franchi side into a genuine fight for a Champions League berth.

Steven Jovetic is apparently very keen on a move to the Premier League and Arsenal are readying an opening offer of £22m for his services, breaking the club’s transfer record and acting as something of a statement of intent from a side that looks set to invest heavily in new talent when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

Arsene Wenger will make room for the arrival of the former Partizan Belgrade man by permanently offloading loaned out strike trio Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young, all of whom have failed to impress in Arsenal colours.

Wenger will look to add Jovetic to a forward line that currently relies a great deal on French forward Olivier Giroud, who has had a patchy first season in the English top tier though has still racked up a respectable 15 goals in all competitions thus far.
