Arsenal are preparing what would be a shock move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas according to The Daily Star.

The Gunners are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer after boss Arsene Wenger finally ran out of patience with Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The young stopper’s erratic displays have cost his side a number of valuable points as they look to secure Champions League qualification for next season with a top four finish.

The club have now reportedly identified Casillas as the man to take the number one gloves at the club.

Casillas is reportedly disillusioned with life at Madrid after repeatedly falling out with the club’s boss Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager became the first Madrid boss in over a decade to drop Casillas.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported in January that Casillas had informed club officials that he intended to hand in  a transfer request should Mourinho remain in charge of the club at the beginning of next season.

While Mourinho is expected to leave the club this summer, neither Real Madrid nor the manager have ruled out the possibility of him extending his stay in the Spanish capital.

That could pave the way for Arsenal to swoop for the player’s signature in what would be one of the club’s biggest coups in recent memory.
