Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that Jose Mourinho was edging towards a summer return to Stamford Bridge and now a respected journalist has stated that such a deal is already in place.

Sky Sports contributor Raphael Honigstein has stated via his Twitter feed that two separate sources, both with strong links with the West London club, claim that the Real Madrid manager has already agreed a deal to take over from Rafa Benitez as Chelsea’s permanent manager this summer.

Real Madrid take on Galatasaray in the Champions League quarter-finals tonight and despite Mourinho leading the club to the La Liga title it seems probable that the 50 year old will leave the Bernabeu at the end of the current campaign having fallen out with a number of the side’s top performers and enjoyed something of a fractious relationship with the club’s board.

Barcelona are on course to wrestle back the La Liga crown from Real Madrid though the Spanish capital side did defeat their old rivals in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Mourinho would be welcomed back with open arms by the Blues faithful following the ‘Special One’s’ successful spell at Stamford Bridge during which the Portuguese boss led Chelsea to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cup successes.
