Liverpool’s hopes of signing Vasco da Gama’s Dede suffered a blow after it was revealed that Corinthians have entered the race for the player’s signature according to talkSport.

The 24 year old has been highly impressive for his side this season and has been repeatedly linked with a move to Europe.

Liverpool have been mentioned alongside the likes of Manchester United and Italian giants AC Milan as potential destinations for the player.

But Dede revealed that he is reluctant to leave his homeland as he hopes to secure a place in the Brazil squad for next summer’s World Cup finals tournament.

Dede remains set to leave Vasco this summer but it appears that Club World Cup Champions Corinthians could make an offer to Dede that would allow him to stay in his homeland.

The Brazilian giants are expected to make a firm offer to Vasco for the player within the coming months.

That will come as a blow to Brendan Rodgers who is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.

The Anfield boss knows he will have to bring some players in as he prepares for the retirement of Anfield legend Jamie Carragher and Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel looking set to leave the club.
