Old Trafford side set to bid for Colombian sensation.
Manchester United are the surprise new entrants in the race for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao according to talkSport.
The Colombian striker is one of the hottest properties in Europe after a highly impressive season for the La Liga side.
Falcao is expected to leave Atletico this summer with a host of top European clubs ready to prise him away from the Spanish capital.
The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG were thought be leading the race for the £50 million rated striker.
It now appears that United are set to throw their hat into the ring in an attempt to bring the player to Old Trafford.
Spanish newspaper Marca are even suggesting that United have already paid a small deposit to Atletico to ensure they secure Falcao’s signature.
The report suggests that the negotiations have been conducted in a manner similar to that which saw goalkeeper David de Gea arrive at United in 2011.
That would indicate that negotiations were in fact concluded weeks ago, long before the player officially signs for the club.
Falcao’s arrival could spell the end for England striker Wayne Rooney. The forward has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford and it is unclear how Sir Alex Ferguson would accommodate Rooney, Falcao and Robin Van Persie in the same team.
