London clubs set to go head to head for Mehdi Benatia.
Tottenham and Chelsea are gearing up for a summer battle to sign Udinese’s Mehdi Benatia according to talkSport.
Benatia has been in fine form for the Serie A side this season and has been attracting the attention of a number of top European sides.
Reports in recent months had suggested that Chelsea were in pole position to sign the centre back but had pulled out of the race after wealthy Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala joined the race for the player.
The Stamford Bridge side were reportedly uninterested in paying an inflated price for the player and felt they were unlikely to be able to compete with the vast sums the Russian club are prepared to offer.
But Chelsea are set to renew their interest in the Benatia after it appeared he favours a move to one of Europe’s big clubs.
Benatia has won many admirers for Udinese since joining the club from French side Clermont three years ago.
The Moroccan international is set to be at the centre of a summer bidding war with Tottenham also thought to be looking to bring the player to the Premier League.
The sides are likely to face stiff competition for the player’s signature though with AC Milan thought to be keen to keep the player in Italy.
