Glenn Hoddle Doubts Europa League Will Save Chelsea Boss Rafa Benitez

Former Chelsea star believes Spanish boss’ time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.

Former Chelsea midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle has revealed that he does not believe Rafa Benitez has a chance of securing the Chelsea job on a permanent basis, according to talkSPORT.

The former Liverpool boss arrived at the club on an interim basis after the London side parted ways with popular head-coach Roberto Di Matteo earlier in the season.

Benitez has endured a fractured relationship with the club’s fans who have never forgiven him for his criticisms of the club made during his time at Anfield.

The Stamford Bridge faithful have voiced their displeasure throughout the season and have let it be known that they are keen for the Spaniard’s time at the club to come to an end.

Benitez has made no secret of the fact that he wants a job with one of Europe’s top sides but Hoddle thinks the manager has no chance of staying at Chelsea beyond the current campaign.

It had been suggested that were Benitez to guide the club to victory in the Europa League, Chelsea could be persuaded to offer him an extension to his current deal.

But Hoddle has dismissed those reports insisting the club would have already offered him a new contract if they were thinking of keeping him on.

‘If Chelsea were really happy with Rafa Benitez he would be signed up and looking at new players for next season,’ said Hoddle.

‘Rafa’s time at Chelsea is limited, whatever he does. Even if he wins the Europa League and gets into the top four, which I think they will, [he’ll still go].’
