Man United are said to be confident of beating Bayern Munich to the signing of Polish international Robert Lewandowski according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 24 year old Borussia Dortmund forward is strongly linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion and it was thought that a move to the Allianz Arena was the most likely but this source claims that the Bundesliga side will fight tooth and nail to prevent the striker moving to the Bavarian side.

Jurgen Klopp has seen midfielder Mario Gotze agree a deal to join Bayern Munich and will not want to see another top talent join their domestic rivals and as such a move to Man United may be preferred by the German side, who last summer sold Shinji Kagawa to the Old Trafford side.

There is speculation that Man United could be willing to accept offers for Wayne Rooney, who will apparently not be offered the same terms on a new deal, which could in turn force the England man to consider a move away, leaving a spot free for Lewandowski.

On the issue of whether there was room in his Man United squad for the Bundesliga ace Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Have I got room for him? I can find room for anybody.”

He then responded to discussions of interest in the striker from Bayern Munich

“Dortmund fans are not going to be happy and I don’t think they will sell Lewandowski to Bayern Munich,”

Ferguson added. “I think they’ll let his contract run out, or sell him somewhere else.”

Lewandowski is the top scorer in the Bundesliga this term and managed 30 last season in all competitions.
