Liverpool have reportedly practically agreed deals with Ajax to sign Danish international Christian Eriksen and Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld.

The Dutch side have confirmed in the recent past that Liverpool had made an approach for starlet playmaker Eriksen but Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has also made a move to bring in adaptable defender Alderweireld with a view to strengthening the club’s defence.

The Amsterdam side are celebrating their third successive Eredivisie title and boss Frank de Boer has previously spoke of the inevitability of the loss of some of his star performers whilst Director of Football Marc Overmars has publicly commented on Liverpool’s long-running interest in Eriksen.

Liverpool see the 21 year old goal-scoring midfielder as a long term replacement for Steven Gerrard, who has had an excellent season but closing in on 33 years of age is clearly in the latter stages of his glittering career.

Eriksen is said to be open to a move to Liverpool though has most recently been targeted by Borussia Dortmund as a potential replacement for Bayern Munich bound Mario Gotze.

Liverpool are said to have agreed a deal with the Dutch club for Eriksen but personal terms with the player are yet to be reached. Brendan Rodgers will hope that he can convince the youngster of the club’s long term potential and hopes to continue his youthful transfer policy with a successful move to sign the Dane.

Rodgers will look to enlist the help of Eriksen’s national team captain Daniel Agger to lure the player to the Merseyside club. The Ajax youngster has already racked up over 150 club appearances as well as 34 national team caps and clearly has a very bright future.

Brendan Rodgers’ interest in 24 year old defender Alderweireld is a more recent development, with the Northern Irishman looking to register his interest following apparent moves for the Ajax man from a number of fellow Premier League suitors.

With Jamie Carragher hanging up his boots and Slovakian Martin Skrtel being snubbed by Rodgers, the no nonsense defender making just three Premier League starts in 2013, Rodgers is keen to beef up his back-line.

The fact that Alderweireld is proficient at both centre-back and right-back is a string to his bow and Rodgers hopes to snap up the former Germinal Beerschot youth team player this summer.

The Antwerp born defender has been a regular in the Ajax first team for four seasons and has over 180 appearances to his name and is a regular in Marc Wilmots highly-rated Belgian national team set-up.

It is believed that Liverpool have tentatively agreed a fee in the region of €30m (£25m) for the Ajax pair and talks with the player’s representative with regards to personal terms are ongoing.
