Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has leapt to the defence of the club’s wantaway striker Luis Suarez according to The Express.

The Uruguayan forward looks likely to leave the club this summer having publically stated his desire to move on a number of occasions over the last few weeks.

Suarez claims that he feels he is being picked on by the English media and that the FA are awarding him unfairly harsh punishments because of their influence.

While he has enjoyed his time at Anfield, and remains popular with the club’s fans and management, it appears that Suarez may well have his sights set on a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

But it remains to be seen whether the La Liga side will be willing to make his dreams come true. It is thought that Real have prioritised the signing of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and Napoli’s Edinson Cavani ahead of his signature so much may depend on their success in signing other targets.

Former Liverpool captain Carragher has moved to allay any fears Liverpool fans might have by insisting that Suarez will not sulk if he does not secure his dream move.

In a dig at former Liverpool team-mate Fernando Torres, Carragher insisted that Suarez had the right mental attitude meaning he would continue to give his all for the club. Torres’ body language visibly expressed his desire to leave Anfield up until he secured a move to Chelsea in January 2011.
