Manchester United are ready to give up their chase for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas according to The Daily Mail.

Old Trafford boss David Moyes is ready to cut his losses on the former Arsenal captain as he knows he does not have to look far for an alternative.

Moyes is ready to instead make a bid for Barcelona’s young sensation Thiago Alcantara. The player lit up the recent European under-21 Championships and that has been enough to persuade Moyes to opt instead for the Spanish youngster.

Thiago is willing to consider offers as he has grown increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team football. That has also had an effect on the amount Barcelona are able to ask for as a reduced minimum fee release clause recently kicked in for Thiago after he failed to make a sufficient number of appearances to maintain the previous figure.

Thiago is now available for a bargain £15 million having previously been given a release fee of £77 million.

Barcelona are keen for him to stay as they recognise the potential in the player who scored a hat-trick in Spain’s Under-21 final victory over Italy on Tuesday.

Gerard Pique has urged Thiago to stay at the Nou Camp but it is thought he could be tempted by the offer of first team football in the Premier League.
