The midfielder recently said that he wants to stay at Barcelona.
Manchester United will maintain their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas despite the player saying that he wants to stay at the Nou Camp according to the Daily Star.
The midfielder has struggled to hold down a starting spot at Barcelona this season and speculation had mounted that the Spaniard may move back to the Premier League, with Manchester United said to be interested.
However the midfielder recently said that he intended to stay with Barca for the time being.
“I want to triumph in Barcelona, that club is my home and I always dreamed of playing there, so I will try and succeed there as long as I can,” said Fabregas.
This has not put off United however and they still think that they can persuade Fabregas to swap the Nou Camp for Old Trafford.
United’s midfield has needed an overhaul for sometime and new boss David Moyes has identified Fabregas as the man to replace United legend Paul Scholes.
Arsenal were also thought to be interested in bringing Fabregas back to the Emirates after he left for Barcelona two years ago.
United are thought to have lined up Fabregas’s team mate, Thiago Alcantara, as a back up if they are unsuccessful in persuading the former Arsenal man to join them.
