Real Madrid striker close to joining Arsenal. The father of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain admits talks are at an advanced stage with both Arsenal and Juventus, according to the Sun.
The Argentine has been linked strongly with a move away all summer after a frustrating season at the Bernabeu that has seem him placed on the transfer list for around £22million.
Arsenal currently seem like the favourites to land the 25-year-old, and would make him their record signing in the process, showing a change of approach in their recent transfer policy.
Although a deal is yet to be completed, Higuain’s father has hinted that a decision could be close.
“Nothing has yet been signed,” he said. “But I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage.
“We won’t agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal. I’m sure Arsenal made a big offer, and Juventus.”
A striker has been a priority signing for Arsene Wenger for much of the summer, and the Gunners also looked to be in competition with Juventus for Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic for some time.
However, Chelsea have also entered the race for the Montenegro international, whose asking price was raised by the Serie A club, leaving Arsenal to pursue Higuain as their prime target.
Arsenal could follow up this big-money deal with another one for Everton star Marouane Fellaini.
