Romelu Lukaka is set to spend the upcoming campaign at Chelsea after a number of loan offers for the player were turned down according to Goal.com.

Lukaku spent the previous season on loan at West Brom where he enjoyed a highly successful season.

The young forward finished the season as the club’s top scorer as his goals fired WBA into a position of mid-table safety.

Baggies boss Steve Clarke was desperate to re-sign the player for another year while a number of other clubs were thought to be ready to the Belgian star a temporary home.

But after talks with new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho it appears that Lukaku is set to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho reportedly informed Lukaku that he seems him as playing an important role in his squad as he looks to rebuild Chelsea amongst the dominant forces in European football.

That may have come as a surprise to many with Chelsea having been linked to a number of top strikers recently.

Chelsea continue to be favourites to win the battle to sign Napoli’s Edinson Cavani. That could spell the end for one of Fernando Torres or Demba Ba with neither likely to be happy to drop down the pecking order behind Cavani and Lukaku.
