Chelsea are looking to snap up Sporting Lisbon youngster Tiago Ilori as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen this Stamford Bridge squad according to the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly made two failed bids for the £8.5m rated centre-back and appear to have given up on landing the Portuguese Under 20 international.

Valencia are also said to be keen on the 20 year old and a move to Chelsea could be compromised by the player’s assertion that he will be looking to secure regular first team football from any prospective buyer, a pledge Mourinho will struggle to meet given the presence of John Terry, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz in his Blues squad.

The 6ft 3in centre-back made 11 first team appearances for Sporting Lisbon and is considered a hot prospect and given that the Primeira Liga side have already sold the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Pedro Mendez and Gelson Fernandes to Norwich City, Lazio and Freiburg respectively it may be safe to say that the club is attempting to balance the books after a poor 2012/13 left the Estádio José Alvalade side without European football for the coming campaign.
