Will Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho allow fan favourite to complete move to Nou Camp?
Chelsea defender David Luiz is said to be very keen on securing a move to Barcelona this summer, so much so that the Brazilian is willing to take a pay-cut to make the move a reality according to El Mundo Deportivo.
Luiz has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks but Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on keeping hold of the fan favourite and the Blues have placed a £40m valuation on the 26 year old, a fee that the Nou Camp side are struggling to foot, hence perhaps the player’s willingness to reduce his wage demands to help the La Liga side meet the cost of a move for the Chelsea man.
Though there have been question marks over Luiz’s maturity and his occasional schoolboy errors there is no denying that the former Benfica man is a very talented player, who is perhaps better suited to a defensive midfield role.
Barcelona are however looking to strengthen their central defensive options, currently new boss Gerardo Martino has only Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol in the way of effective senior selections to use, with Javier Mascherano and Alex Song both having been used in makeshift roles last term.
Having failed with advances for PSG’s Thiago Silva Barcelona have now set their sights on Luiz.
David Luiz has racked up 109 appearances for Chelsea since moving to the West London club in January 2011.
