Liverpool’s new signing Aly Cissokho has expressed his excitement at joining the club after being impressed by their display in a 1-0 victory over Stoke City, Sky Sports reports.

The French left-back has joined the Anfield club on an initial one-year loan with a view to a permanent transfer from Spanish side Valencia.

After a career spent with the likes of Lyon and Porto, the 25-year-old is an experienced player with an ability to adapt to new and different leagues, and spoke of his excitement as he watched the Reds’ first game of the season against Stoke at Anfield.

“Valencia weren’t playing until 11pm, so I had plenty of time during the afternoon to watch the game while still at home,” he said.

“I saw the whole game, I already knew I was going to sign for Liverpool so it was great that they won and played well.

“They played very well with a lot of passing the ball on the deck and the forward players showed a lot of skill and weren’t scared to try things. It was an entertaining game to watch.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had been in the market for a new left-back for much of the summer, after becoming unconvinced with Jose Enrique as the club’s first choice in that position.

They were reportedly close to signing Brazilian defender Guilherme Siqueira from Granada before eventually opting for Cissokho.
