Liverpool are set to return with a bid for Derby County’s teenage midfielder Will Hughes during the January transfer window, according to the Metro.

The 18-year-old was a target for Brendan Rodgers over the summer, but despite opening talks with the Pride Park outfit over a new deal, suitable terms couldn’t be agreed upon before the close of the window.

Rodgers still remains a fan of the player as he still looks to continue to remould the squad in his youthful image and he has instructed chief scout Barry Hunter to keep an eye on him and monitor his progress up until the end of the year when he is expected to make a move for him.

The Reds value the England youth international at around £6m, but would be prepared to go up to £10m with various add ons and bonuses that would rise should Hughes ever be selected for the senior England side.

Rodgers will have to act fast, though, as both Arsenal and Manchester City have both been credited with an interest in landing his signature.

Liverpool believe any deal could be part of a partnership between the two clubs, which would see the Anfield club send players to Pride Park on-loan, in return for the first option on their young talents.
