Man United’s pursuit of steely midfield options to boost their squad has taken David Moyes back to the Nou Camp and a potential January bid for Barcelona battler Alex Song according to Spanish source Sport.

Barcelona are reportedly looking for a fee of at least €19m (£16m) for the Cameroon international, a reasonable fee for a player with an undoubted level of proven top tier experience.

Last term the 26 year old battler made just 17 La Liga starts and has only managed one start during the current campaign, therefore seemingly proving new boss Gerardo Martino has as little intention of using Song in a prominent role as his predecessor Tito Vilanova.

Song may well jump at the chance of a return to the Premier League and if by the time the January transfer window has re-opened he is no nearer to making an impact at the Nou Camp then such a deal could well be one that suits all concerned.

Man United have sought to freshen up their midfield with the purchase of Belgian powerhouse Marouane Fellaini though Song would offer a new dimension to the club’s playing style and would afford some much needed protection for the club’s defensive line.
