Real Madrid have apparently also pushed on with efforts to bring in the 25 year old Pole but it’s Chelsea that appear to have the upper hand.

Borussia Dortmund will be keen to keep hold of Lewandowski until the end of the current campaign, when his contract comes to a close, but know that doing so may well increase the likelihood that the forward will follow Mario Gotze to the Allianz Arena, something Jurgen Klopp will look to prevent at all costs.

Chelsea’s current crop of strikers of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Andre Schurrle have managed just four goals from a combined 27 Premier League appearances and as such Mourinho will certainly be likely to make a move for a fresh attacking option when the transfer window re-opens.

Lewandowski has been in his usual consistent goal-scoring form this term, scoring nine goals in 11 Bundesliga starts, and may perhaps be open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

The former Lech Poznan man is into his fourth season at the Westfalenstadion and has netted an impressive 88 goals in 156 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
