Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted that he would love to see international teammate Kevin De Bruyne join him at at the club in January, Sky Sports reports.

Chelsea Transfer News

De Bruyne has confirmed that he would be more than open to the possibility of a loan move away from Stanford Bridge when the transfer window reopens after playing a bit part role during the early stages of the season.

The 22-year-old had been hoping to establish himself in the Chelsea first team this term after enjoying a successful campaign with German side Werder Bremen last season.

However, the heavy competition at the club has left him on the periphery of the squad, and his international team manager Marc Wilmots, as well as a number of his colleagues have advised him to move on as soon as possible.

And Toby Alderweireld has become the latest star to urge him to leave by saying he would be most welcome at Atletico, though he realises it may be easier said than done if he is not playing regularly.

“It will be fantastic if he joins Atletico in January,” Alderweireld said, who made the move to Madrid from Ajax in the summer.

“Kevin is an excellent player. He knows how to play football.

“On the other hand, this team is already shaped and is doing well in the league.

“If he decides to leave Chelsea, he has to move to a team where he can play regularly, because the World Cup is coming.”
