The French ace picked up the injury during the victory over Cardiff and after initial tests it was made clear that he would be in no fit state to play any part against the Tigers when they visit the Emirates on Wednesday and youngster Carl Jenkinson is set to deputise in his absence.

“From Saturday against Cardiff we will lose Sagna, who has a slight hamstring problem. He should be out for tomorrow’s game”, the manager said at a press conference.

“Jenkinson is likely to come back.”

Sagna has been in fine form for his club this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions – scoring once and creating two assists. His deal at the Emirates expires at the end of the current campaign and he did have designs on playing himself into fresh terms, but has the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Monaco on his trail too.

The club will monitor his progress over the coming days to see if he will be fit enough to face Everton at the weekend.
