The Man United boss has apparently placed the 22 year old French international in a position of priority on his January transfer window wish-list and is hoping to bring in the £15m rated centre-back to help boost his Old Trafford defence.
With Nemanja Vidic struggling with injuries in recent seasons and 35 year old Rio Ferdinand clearly in the latter stages of his career it makes good sense to target reinforcements, not least because though both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling can play at centre-back both are arguably better suited to other positions.
Mangala helped FC Porto the title last term, the Primeira Liga side conceding just 14 goals in 30 matches, and is also being targeted by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
