The Red Devils have been keeping close tabs on the highly rated England international ever since head coach David Moyes took over from previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the previous campaign, with the Scot desperate to be reunited once again with his former player at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, despite making several bids for Baines during the previous summer transfer window, the Merseyside giants refused to allow the 29-year-old to depart Goodison Park unless their top-flight rivals met the asking price for the attacking left back.

And with United unwilling to offer more than £15m for a player who will turn 30 next year and whose current contract with the Toffees now only runs until June 30 2015, both clubs reached a stalemate.

But the situation does not look like resolving itself though in the January transfer window either though as Everton insist that unless United fork out £25m for the Englishman, then Baines will be going nowhere this month.
