Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is set to raid his former Club Norwich City for veteran attacking midfielder Wes Hoolahan in a £1.5m deal, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Villans have struggled in front of goal this term and that has largely been due to the lack of a creative influence in the middle of the pitch, and Lambert sees his former charge as the ideal man to inject some life back into the squad and boost their attacking impetus.

However, his approach will not please the hierarchy at Carrow Road, who are still displeased with Lambert following his acrimonious exit from the club 18 months ago.

The 31-year-old has played in Norwich’s past two games but regular first team football has not been guaranteed to him by manager Chris Hughton, and with question marks hanging over his head the Republic of Ireland international could be set to move on with the promise of more playing time in the West Midlands.

Lambert has previously made a point of only targeting young players in his past transfer dealings, but has now recognised that his side are in need of some valuable experience and has instead turned to a player that he already knows from previous jobs.
